Les Fantastiques - Comédie Musicale

Du 20 au 23 juin 2019, l'association TerrOpera présentera  à la Halle aux Grains de Lectoure "Les Fantastiques",  la version française de ce bijou des comédies musicales, dans une version nouvelle totalement inédite et créée pour cette occasion.

Le 3 mai 1960, la première représentation de "The Fantasticks" était donnée au Sullivan Street Playhouse de New York où la pièce est restée à l’affiche pendant 41 ans. Cette comédie musicale, composée par Harvey Schmidt sur des paroles de Tom Jones, est basée sur la comédie "Les Romanesques" d'Edmond Rostand, et puise son inspiration tant dans le musical que la commedia dell'arte. Pourtant, à part le très célèbre air “Try to Remember", elle est encore bien trop peu connue du public français. 

From June 20 to 23, 2019, the TerrOpera festival will present this jewel of musical theatre in a completely new and original French-language production. 

Who could have known on the evening of its premiere at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York on May 3, 1960, that the Fantasticks would enjoy a heretofore unprecedented success, playing to full houses until it closed 41 years later on January 13, 2002.  But so was it to be.  Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones created a perfect marriage between a timeless fable and a deeply touching musical score.  Drawing its inspiration both from the commedia dell'arte and the American musical, the Fantasticks is actually based on the French comedy Les Romanesques by Edmond Rostand. Yet, apart from the well-known song, "Try to Remember", it remains far too little known in France.
